Golf fans are in for a treat this week with FOX SPORTS preparing to broadcast the inaugural Fiji International, with 20 hours of live coverage set to be produced from one of world golf’s most exotic destinations.
With players now making their way to the pristine shores of Fiji for the US$1 million PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia tournament, organisers are promising golf fans a tournament with a difference.
Presented by an experienced commentator line up including Jack Newton, Grant Dodd, Brendon Julian and Brett Ogle, the Fiji International will be broadcast over four days from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 August.
The telecast will be live on FOX SPORTS 3HD and FOX SPORTS 3 from 10.00am to 3.00pm AEST Thursday and Friday and 9.00am to 2.00pm AEST Saturday and Sunday.
Also set to feature as part of the broadcast, veteran Tour Professional and media personality Paul Gow will add a new element to this week’s golf broadcast.
Gow, who throughout his career has competed on the PGA TOUR as well as in Australia, will compete mic’d up for the duration of his rounds giving a unique perspective on the Tour’s newest and most spectacular destinations.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to bring the TV audience inside the ropes to experience what a touring golf Professional goes through in tournament conditions,” he said.
Next week’s episode of The Golf Show will also be filmed on site at Natadola Bay and will be aired on Tuesday 19 August, at 8.30pm AEST on FOX SPORTS 1HD and FOX SPORTS 1.
Outside Australia FOX SPORTS will also host the international feed for the Fiji International that will be broadcast to more than 400 million homes in 30 counties.
One of golf’s emerging golf destinations, the sights of Natadola Bay are certain to peak the interest of golfers all around the world.
Designed by Fiji’s own Vijay Singh, Natadola Bay blends world class golf architecture with dramatic landscapes with the sparkling backdrop of coral reefs and the Pacific Ocean on 15 out of the 18 holes.
In its inaugural year on the world golf calendar the Fiji International has attracted players from 16 countries including headline act Singh who is yet to play the course he designed since it officially opened in 2009.
Joining the big Fijian at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course will be Major Champion and Presidents Cup Captain Nick Price, India’s top player Anirban Lahiri, China’s Liang Wenchong and Australia and New Zealand’s top contenders including Brendan Jones, Matt Griffin, Michael Hendry, Craig Parry and Scott Strange.
Round 1 of the Fiji International will get underway this Thursday with live scoring available at www.pga.org.au.
