Kuchar wins 2015 Fiji International

After raging winds and a challenging four days on course, Matt Kuchar emerged victorious at the 2015 Fiji International.

Matt Kuchar claim Fiji titleAfter starting the final round with a two shot lead, Kuchar fired 3-under 69 which saw the the World Number 16 end the week on 4-under the card and four shots ahead of Australian Professional, Aron Price.

“Its been a great week. It’s been so much fun to have the family here and have Dad caddying for me. To finish on top has really made it an excellent week, one I’m sure I’ll never forget,” said Kuchar.

“I knew I had to play some really good golf to try and have a chance at this title and I played some great golf this week. I was excited to come out on top.”

“Winning is a hard thing to do regardless of where you are, US PGA or Fiji, there are great players everywhere.”

Kuchar pulled away from the field early thanks to four birdies on the front nine which were helped by calmer weather conditions.

“With the wind blowing the way it was on Thursday and Friday, if you’re not hitting it good you many not break 90, it was that challenging.”

The Fiji International is Kuchar’s first win since the RBC Heritage on the PGA TOUR in April 2014.

It was also his first appearance at the Fiji International after arriving fresh from a Team USA win at last week’s Presidents Cup in Korea.

It is hoped that Kuchar will return in 2016 to defend his title, alluding to the fact that it wouldn’t take much for him to return.

“We’ve had an amazing time in Fiji and you probably don’t have to twist my arm too hard to get me back to Fiji. It’s been a great week and certainly it’s a destination I enjoy getting back to.”

Price meanwhile went bogey free in the final round firing 1-under 71 to finish his week on even par and outright second.

“I hit 16 greens in regulations, on the two I missed I made pars I didn’t have a bogey all day, just not enough birdies,” said Price.

Rounding out the top-5 finishes at this year’s Fiji International were Vijay Singh, Ryan Fox and Nick Cullen.

Hometown hero Singh had a bogey free round shooting a course record of 7-under 65 that included seven birdies to finish 1-over the card to tie for third with Fox and Cullen.

New Zealander Fox fired 5-under 67 which included seven birdies to finished the week on 1-over the card.

A costly double bogey on the front nine made things though for Cullen, who also managed to fire seven birdies in his round of 5-under 67, to join Singh and Fox on 1-over.
