A fit and fired up Marcus Fraser is ready to make his European Tour swansong one to remember, starting with this week’s Fiji International presented by Fiji Airways.

After celebrating his 40th birthday last week, the 2016 Rio Olympian is teeing it up in Fiji for the first time and has decided he’ll rejig his playing schedule in order to spend more time with his family in Australia moving forward.

“I’m hopefully going to try and play a little bit less,” Fraser told PGA of Australia.

“This is my last year playing in Europe, 16 years of going back and forth from Australia has probably taken its toll.

“Obviously my priority now is my kids, getting them in school and all that sort of stuff. They’re pretty busy, so I need to be home a little bit more and golf can take a little bit of a back seat from here on in.”

Much like this week’s headline act Ernie Els, Fraser has made a point of testing his game all over the globe.

With a combined five titles on the European Tour and secondary Challenge Tour, Fraser has lifted silverware in Denmark, Finland, Russia, South Korea and most recently Malaysia in 2016.

But luckily Australian golf fans – and those across Asia – will still get the chance to see one of the most likeable characters in the game walk the fairways.

“I’ve been lucky, I’ve been able to play in Europe for 16 years,” said Fraser.

“I’ll continue to play in Asia a little bit and a lot more in Australia which will be nice.”

Fraser was forced to withdraw from July’s Irish Open due to a back issue that’s lingered in recent years.

With his European Tour exemption from winning in Malaysia reaching its end this year, the Corowa product is eyeing off a new chapter in his life.

“It was just my back, which is something I’ve struggled with all year. It wasn’t ideal, I just felt like I couldn’t go on too much more,” said Fraser.

“Being away from home for three or four months it took its toll.

“I had three weeks at home before here to freshen up, get things right and give it a bit of a test run this week. It all feels pretty good at the moment so fingers crossed we can get through here and have another few weeks off and get going again.”

Barely 24 hours after laying eyes on Vijay Singh’s Natadola Bay Championship Course for the first time, Fraser is already plotting his return for years to come.

“It’s unbelievable, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to come here,” laughed Fraser.

“You sort of catch yourself out a few times not even looking at the golf course, just staring out at the ocean and what not. It’s just a beautiful place and the course is in great nick.

“I’ll be back here, that’s for sure!”
